[attr="class","official-title"]Character Interaction & Combat Rules
[attr="class","official-header"]General Rules
[break][break]
1. Please be courteous of each other and the SL. If your character's action would have widespread consequences for the entire SL, show restraint. Chances are you will not be allowed to destroy major cities. However, any major actions you propose can be asked of the administrators for support. If we allow it, it will be made known for all members.
[break][break]
2. We encourage joint story writing. As such, we will not allow people to "
LOCK" their topics between them and other players in the traditional sense.
[break][break]
3. If you and another character (or more) wish to craft a SL without the interference of other parties, this is completely understandable. In this case, please note [IN PROGRESS] in the title. This does not prevent another player from joining the topic, but it will prevent them from joining until you have told the story your intended to do.
[break][break]
4. A player wishing to join a story
IN PROGRESS may perform what we will call a
KNOCK by posting the word in the thread. This will let the players know that you have interest in joining. They can either allow you in right away, or inform you of when their key moment will be done and then you may join in. At that point, they will have to interact with your character.
KNOCK posts should be deleted afterwards in order to keep things clean.
[break][break]
5. All things should follow some sort of logic. Characters should not randomly be at the presence of your friend's battle if they were halfway across the world in their last post. Do your best to tell a coherent story.
[break][break]
6. Do not Godmod. You've heard it in every storyline you've ever been in so you should be used to it.
[break][break]
7. You are allowed as much control over your opponent's responses as they allow / trust you with. If they have not roleplayed with you before, don't be surprised if they request that they control their characters reactions to everything. Understand this is a joint effort to tell a story and even people roleplaying together for years may not fully understand how the other would choose to write their character. If your co-writer asks for something to be edited, work it out.
[break][break]
8. Character stats are there in order to guide your logic, but are not trump cards. They are not to say that a character with stat X will always beat a character with stat Y. They should be taken into account when responding to actions, and creative ways of a character gaining the upper-hand can always be entertained.
[break][break]
9. While we hope that players can work out differences in opinion themselves, and even suggest 'choreographing' fights in OOC (
Out-of-Character) prior to writing to some extent to limit conflicts -- we understand that they do happen. In this case, we'll treat it with NFL rules. During each 'combat,' a player can be considered to have two 'challenge flags.' You may call a moderator in to make a ruling. If the moderator rules in your favor, you do not lose your 'challenge flag.' If the moderator rules against you, the 'challenge flag' is revoked. Once again, we cannot stress the importance of co-operative play enough. Be mature and work things out when possible.
[break][break]
10. In the event that the moderator's ruling is deemed completely unacceptable and there is no other recourse, the matter can be put to a SL-wide vote. We hope these instances are absolutely minimal. Even in a SL vote, you will need at least 2/3 of the voters to vote against the moderator's ruling.
[break][break]
11. Characters cannot be killed unless given permission by the author. There are exceptions to this rule: (a) If killed during questing where death is a possibility (b) killed during battle with a SL 'boss' figure and (c) If a combat is ongoing for a great length of time and neither opponent wishes to back down, a moderator may deem that the participants either resolve it or fight to death (in which a moderator may judge the match).
[break][break]
11. Death, like in most of our fandoms, need not be permanent. However, an appropriate amount of time should pass before reviving a character and it should be done creatively and skillfully. In the meantime, a player is welcome to create another character instead.

[attr="class","official-header"]Combat Rules
[break][break]
1. Combat should be Turn-Based. This means that one character makes a post stating their action, their opponent responds, and so on.
[break][break]
2. Turn order should be deduced based on the most logical conclusion from the given situation. If an attack is a surprise attack, that player would ordinarily go first. In an ordinary battle, the faster player might be the one to move first. This is something that is flexible with every situation, but once again should be determined based on what makes the most sense and what works for the story.
[break][break]
3. Multi-player battles are possible. Turn order should be once again decided based on what makes sense and telling a good story.
[break][break]
4. You can only kill your opponent if permission is granted, or if a moderator has had to step in to declare it a fight to the death. This does not mean a character cannot be knocked unconscious, rendered immobile, etc.
[break][break]
5. Sell your injuries. This is just a reminder to play your characters accordingly.
[break][break]
6. Should any issues arise, see a moderator or post a question.
[break][break]
[attr="class","official-header"]The Golden Rule
[break][break]
Remember that your characters are living and breathing beings who also become afraid, make mistakes, get tired, have good days, have bad days, and sometimes need to take a piss. In short, you are here to tell a story and embody a character primarily and to gain victories second. You will take your licks. You will claim your bounties. We will look out for those who are consistent in their dedication to great storytelling.
