[attr="class","official-header"]About Us
[break][break]Project: Year One is a play-by-post storyline where all your favorite fandoms have been uprooted from their individual universes and placed on the spinning ball called Earth in this one. In short, this a storyline based around the age-old question of what would happen if X crossed over into Y -- except multiple times over.
[break][break]All characters entering the fray are plucked from their universes as their "Year One" point. This means the moment they went from something ordinary to extraordinary. It should be the earliest point in their journey. The exact definition of this is somewhat ambiguous, but characters will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Also, please note that this means their story trajectory can change dramatically as they are no longer in their canon universe but in an entirely new one. Go wild.
The work crafted here should be one of 1/4 labor and 3/4 love. In short, create engaging tales but at the end of the day write because you're having fun.
[break][break]If you are looking for a rating on the content of the work done here: we have none. I'm not a big fan of censorship, but that shouldn't be taken as a sign that we're a board for you to let out your pent-up sexual frustrations and deep-seeded racism that you've been waiting to let out. Play the character.

[attr="class","official-header"]Logistics
[break][break]
1. The world develops as characters are added to it. If Batman joins the game, Gotham City will likely find itself on the map. It'll be placed in a continent board, and the game will continue as normal. Whoever has placed the characters in this world has God-like abilities, and therefore the majority of characters will proceed as if Gotham had always been there -- because to them, it has been.
[break][break]
2. The world our characters live in are modeled are set in the year 2015 for the first year and will progress from there. This does
not impose a ban on characters from past or future settings. We will find creative ways to include their important cities.
[break][break]
3. Characters should develop at a reasonable pace and not make any leaps in progress that send them from "Year One" status to "peak of their canon's career" overnight. There will be an EXP system to mitigate this, but ultimately you are required to keep things as "realistic" as possible. Realistic might be the wrong word to use in a storyline like this, but hopefully the spirit of the message is clear.
[break][break]
4. Every 2 weeks in real life will be the equivalent of one month in the game. A timeline will be kept in order for people to keep up with events.
[break][break]
[attr="class","official-header"]Pre-Registration
1. Please familiar yourself with the
plot of the storyline and, if at all possible, as much of your fellow writer's work as possible.
[break][break]
2. Please review the list of characters currently taken before making your application.
[break][break]
3. Please review this entire document all the way through before asking questions.
[break][break]
[attr="class","official-header"]Posting Rules
[break][break]
1. Please take pride in your writing. Double-check for spelling, grammar, and coding errors.
[break][break]
2. While there is no age restriction on joining, please be advised that we do not censor writing and therefore there might be content of violent or sexual matter.
[break][break]
3. Please put your best foot forward with your writing. While there is no exact barometer to judge a writer's skill, we expect more than "Character A punches character B super hard" levels of writing.
[break][break]
[attr="class","official-header"]Character Creation
[break][break]
1. Characters can come from any fandom regardless of genre. Comic books, anime, video games, novels, film and television (and whatever else you may think of) are all fair game. This means that all characters are
canon characters.*
[break][break]
2. While it is
not required, it is highly suggested that the chosen character has some means of defending themselves or fighting as fighting will be a part of the SL.
[break][break]
3. As these characters do come from canon universes, you should understand their personality as it stands at the point they are plucked from their universe --
BUT this could change depending on your own stories. Do not feel tied to the mythos. Things can change the moment your character's feet touch this new Earth.
[break][break]
4. Every player may initially have one (
1) main character and up to (
3) side characters from their canon-verse that function as important to that character's life. These side characters can be combative (e.g. a nemesis) or non-combative (e.g. a family member).
[break][break]
5. The number of main characters and side characters you can have will increase with your time in the SL. This will represent the time you've put in, the trust you can be allowed, and your character's own progression in their SL (most characters do not start out with all their side characters). Therefore, for every 4 weeks you are in the SL you may lay claim to an additional two (
2) side characters and one (
1) additional main character (who will start with the amount of side characters you are allowed)
[break][break]
6. The aforementioned rules on mains and sides do not prevent you from coming up with as many non-canon characters as you desire.
[break][break]
7. In the event that, upon sign-up, you wish to main or use a side character that another player has already claimed, it is still a possibility. However, you will have to contact the original player and gain permission from them to take on the character (or joint-own a side character). You are responsible for learning the character's history as it pertains to this SL and honoring their characterization.
[break][break]
8. In the event that, upon sign-up, you wish to main or use a side character that another player has retired, it is still a possibility. If the character is dead, they may be revived via creative means that are your responsibility. Depending on the character's presence in the SL prior to you selecting them, it may be required that you read their history and honor their characterization. These matters can be discussed.
[break][break]
9. As these characters do come from canon universes, you should understand their personality as it stands at the point they are plucked from their universe --
BUT this could change depending on your own stories. Do not feel tied to the mythos. Things can change the moment your character's feet touch this new Earth.
[break][break]
10. Characters from alternate universes
are allowed. Therefore, Earth-616 Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man can co-exist. It is recommended that if you go with an alternative universe version that there are enough differences between the two to make it worth it.
[break][break]
*. The only banned characters are those deemed too powerful. These characters are reserved for storyarchs involving the entire SL. During character creation, you will be given 25 stat points to attribute. These stat points should match the canon's actual "Year One" stats. A good way to tell if a character is too powerful and will not be allowed is if you cannot logically distribute the points without exceeding the cap.

[attr="class","official-header"]Applying & Registering
1. Please see the Application template and fill it out in the correct section of the boards.
[break][break]
2. If you have any questions or your application is not handled within 24 hours, you may then PM a moderator.
[break][break]
3. A good idea is to review completed applications to understand how things are meant to be filled out.
[break][break]
4. The subject of all applications should be done in this style: "Last Name, First Name | Series (Version)" or "Alias | Series (Version)" if the character has no traditional name. An example would be "Kent, Clark | Superman (Earth-One); "Potter, Harry | Harry Potter (Novels)."
[break][break]
5. The Stat-System is based on a modified Marvel Comics Power Grid due to its ease and simplicity. A breakdown of the stats can be found in the application.
[break][break]
6. After your application has been accepted, you will have to either change your member log-in to the name of your character (either secret identity or an alias).
[break][break]
7. A separate account must be held for each main character. Side characters do not require separate accounts.
[break][break]
8. You will be issued a code to place in your profile. You will be responsible for maintaining and keeping your information up-to-date.
[break][break]
9. You will be asked to start a thread in the "Trades" section of the forum. In this thread, you will keep the SL updated with links to your character works.
[break][break]
[attr="class","official-header"]Activity
1. You are not
required to post any amount during any given week, however prolonged absence may result in the forfeit of your character. Please do try to keep active.
[break][break]
2. EXP is earned on a weekly basis and based on the number of posts you have made as long as each post is 150 words or more. The breakdown is as follows:
- 7+ Posts: 100 EXP
- 5-6 Posts: 80 EXP
- 3-4 Posts: 60 EXP
- 1-2 Posts: 40 EXP
- 0 Posts: 0 EXP
[break][break]
3. You are to keep track of your EXP on your Profile. You are trusted with being accurate in regards to your record keeping. Any attempt to defraud the system will result in banning from the game, so please let's keep things honest.
[break][break]
4. Once you have reached 1,000 EXP you may spend the 1,000 EXP (subtract it from your recorded amount) to unlock an "Iconic Moment." An "Iconic Moment" is something character-defining and character-building. This may be something that permanently increases a stat, grants them a new ability, etc. Please talk this over with a Game Master or Administrator first, but have fun with the experience.
[break][break]
5. EXP can be rewarded through other means such as completing something related to the storyline (as noted), winning certain votes, etc.
[break][break]
6. We encourage you to interact with other members as much as possible. However, if you are feeling like you need some assistance in "shaking things up" with your story, feel free to contact a Game Master. We will have Game Masters assigned to -- more or less -- act as a "Dungeon Master" of sorts. Should you request a Game Master, their job will be to respond to your posts and shape your story via controlling the environment and events in your story. This is good for those times you need to get the creative juices flowing, or simply are bored.
